The Downtime Podcast: Morrison Container Handling Solutions on timing screws and OEM support

In episode 31 of The Downtime, a weekly manufacturing podcast from WTWH Media, co-host Sarah Wynn chats with Dustin Lee, vice president of sales at Morrison Container Handling Solutions. The discussion covers Morrison’s core product, timing screws, along with change parts, auto-adjust rails, and how the company supports machine builders to keep rigid containers moving through lines smoothly.

Timing screws on the line

Morrison is a second-generation, family-owned business based in Glenwood, Illinois. For more than fifty years, the company has served as a trusted partner to machine builders by providing equipment to simplify line flow and changeovers.

OEM Profile: Engineering every turn: How Morrison supports OEMs, containers, and changeovers

At the heart of Morrison’s offerings are timing screws, Lee explained, adding that this technology “transcends” throughout all other product offerings. These components help containers such as ice cream, ammunition, and mouthwash move efficiently through packaging lines, one turn at a time.

“You will often see a timing screw that’s on the infeed of a rotary filler or a labeler or capper,” he said. “We work with both OEMs and end users in supplying these timing screws, and we believe we are the best in the world at it.”

Change parts and line adjustments

In addition to timing screws, Morrison is known for its change parts and auto-adjust rails to streamline changeovers.

“When we talk about change parts, we are talking about rotary star wheels and guides that would be on a rotary machine,” said Lee. “We also provide an auto-adjust rail solution, so for a complete line, being able to go and push a button on a human-machine interface (HMI) and having the conveyor rails adjust in and out to whatever bottle size you’re running.”

Supporting production uptime

Emphasizing that customer support is factored into every business decision, Lee said the company often ships its products quickly to machine builders to avoid costly downtime.

“We really try to make sure that we are never the bottleneck to a production line,” he said. “Production is king, and if production is not running, our customers aren’t making money.”

Looking ahead to 2026

As the new year approaches, Lee said he’s looking forward to helping Morrison expand its footprint. “I’m excited for the opportunities that Morrison is going to have this next year and continue to grow and be a big player in the packaging industry.”
