Rockwell Automation recently unveiled its EtherNet/IP in-cabinet Solution aimed at improving connectivity and reducing wiring time for manufacturing operations.
The company, a provider of industrial automation and information technology, says the new product is capable of cutting wiring time by up to 80% when compared to traditional hard-wired installations. It’s designed for adaptability and can handle traditional in-cabinet components such as motor starters.
“Packaging machine builders need solutions that are flexible, scalable, and cost-effective to keep up with evolving industry demands,” said Kelly Passineau, product manager at Rockwell Automation, in an exclusive statement to Packaging OEM. “The EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution simplifies wiring with a 7-conductor flat media cable system, dramatically reducing installation time, material costs, and panel complexity.”

System implementation and key features
Volga, a Rockwell Systems integrator and partner, specializing in electrical, mechanical, and automation control, has deployed the solution at its facility in Brazil.
“The EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution reduced our assembly time by over 65%, enabling us to wire starters and panel operators in just over an hour,” said Carlos Leopoldo, commercial director at Volga, in a statement.
Key features of the new system include:
· Compact design: Allows additional devices to be installed in the same footprint.
· Data access: Provides real-time communication between devices.
· Scalability: Capable of expanding or adapting to future networking needs without drastic infrastructure changes.
· Sustainability: Enables devices to connect through a single unified infrastructure, Rockwell Automation said, combining power and data into a single cable. This reduces the need for separate wiring, minimizing waste.
Volga says the system has reduced the risk of incorrect connections and highlighted benefits for its employees.
“It’s a well-designed solution that enhances efficiency and reliability for both panel builders and end users who can benefit from improved communication, diagnostics, and easier maintenance,” said Leopoldo.

Addressing system outages
Additionally, Passineau said that the solution aims to cut downtime while addressing digital transformation in packaging.
“Built-in Ethernet/IP connectivity ensures real-time diagnostics and predictive maintenance for faster troubleshooting, keeping machines running at peak performance,” said Passineau. “With service contracts becoming a key factor in machine profitability, this solution helps packaging OEMs meet on-time delivery expectations and avoid falling behind in a competitive market.”
He added that this solution supports optimized supply chain management, helping packaging machine builders improve line performance.
“This solution isn’t just about connectivity – it’s about delivering smarter, more secure, adaptable machines that drive efficiency, reliability, and long-term success,” said Passineau.
Configuration and support
Rockwell Automation says the solution offers a plug-and-play design and works with its Logix Designer software for easy configuration, commissioning, and maintenance.
