Rockwell Automation connects motor protection with in-cabinet diagnostics

Rockwell Automation is highlighting its 140ME Motor Protective Switching Device and its integration with the company’s EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution.

The 140ME combines disconnect capability, magnetic short-circuit protection, electronic overload protection, and manual switching for motor control.

Through the EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution, the company says manufacturers can access real-time diagnostics, device health insights, and operational data through a 100-E Contactor communication module.

Motor protection and control

The 140ME is designed to protect motors from overload, phase loss, and short-circuit conditions. According to the company, combining multiple protection and control functions into a single unit reduces panel complexity and simplifies installation.

The switching device provides status indication and predictable trip behavior, helping operators identify issues and return systems to operation more quickly. Its compact footprint is intended to help panel builders optimize space while maintaining both accessibility and safety.

The device is part of Rockwell Automation’s Branch Motor Control & Protection portfolio alongside the 100-E Contactors, 140MT Motor Protection Circuit Breakers, and E100 Electronic Overload Relays.

Connectivity and diagnostics

The company says the EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution allows manufacturers to monitor motor conditions, identify issues more quickly, and support predictive maintenance strategies.

Packaging OEM previously spoke with Kelly Passineau, product manager at Rockwell Automation, about the offering and its benefits for machine builders.

“Packaging machine builders need solutions that are flexible, scalable, and cost-effective to keep up with evolving industry demands,” said Kelly Passineau, product manager at Rockwell Automation, in a June 2025 interview. “The EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution simplifies wiring with a 7-conductor flat media cable system, dramatically reducing installation time, material costs, and panel complexity.”

The EtherNet/IP In-cabinet Solution can reduce wiring time by up to 80% compared to traditional hard-wired installations and is designed to support adaptable in-cabinet configurations, according to Rockwell Automation.
