Packsize launches X6 machine, capable of producing 1,500 boxes per hour

Packsize unveiled its fully automated X6 box-making machine at ProMat in Chicago, an eco-friendly, on-demand packaging machine designed to reduce materials.

The company says the X6 produces 1,500 erected boxes per hour and can create flaps and trays from corrugated Z-fold. Its automated features lower manual labor and costs while improving packaging speed.

“It’s the fastest box production machine on the market,” said Brian Reinhart, chief revenue officer for Packsize, in an interview with Packaging OEM. “It has the largest box entitlement on the market, meaning it can do big boxes for multi-order e-commerce systems, as well as low, small individual item boxes.”

At the core of Packsize’s sustainability efforts is its “right-size” packaging, which helps manufacturers reduce material usage, including additional filler like peanuts or air pillows, and CO2 emissions.

Understanding ‘right-size’ packaging

Packsize creates custom boxes tailored specifically to the dimensions of the product it houses, resulting in less material usage and reduced shipping costs.

“Within manufacturing, a lot of the products that need to be packaged are relatively standard,” said Reinhart.

X6’s sustainable impact

The X6 can be integrated into manufacturers’ lines to address consumer calls for sustainable packaging and reduce the company’s eco-footprint compared to traditional box-making machines.

“Compared to a standard operation where you’re buying pre-built boxes, this machine can save about 60,000 trees, or seven million pounds of CO2 per year, really helping your company’s sustainability initiatives,” Reinhart explained.

Additionally, the X6 can produce boxes small enough to fit through mail envelope slots, making it an eco-friendly alternative to plastic poly mailers.

The X6 can integrate with current systems and work with any automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) or existing facility pack operations. Its automated features include printing and applying on-demand or printed labels, cutting, folding, and gluing, along with an optional carton closing setting.

The X6 can integrate with Packsize’s PackNet Core software, providing manufacturers with updates on machine performance and ways to improve packaging efficiency and quality.

X6 integration timeline

Incorporating the X6 into your facility takes a few months for manufacturing, delivery, and deployment.

“From contract to system go live, you’re looking at about a four-month project,” said Reinhart.

Since each manufacturer is unique, Reinhart said the company offers access to one of its 150 in-house engineers to help solve deployment challenges. Packsize also has a global team to assist with customer service.
