Compatible with Siemens Industrial Edge, Novakon PCs support smart packaging lines

Novakon displayed its industrial panel PCs at Automate in Detroit. These devices are compatible with Siemens Industrial Edge, a platform that enables OEMs to deploy and manage industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications to improve machine performance and maintenance.

The panel PCs, known as the NPP Series, are built with machine builders in mind as they hold up in industrial environments while supporting data-driven maintenance and energy efficiency.

“As a Siemens partner, our panel PCs run industrial IoT software for visualization, predictive maintenance, and AI analysis,” said Vincent Shao, sales director at Novakon, during an interview with Packaging OEM.

The Taiwanese manufacturer, which also produces human-machine interface (HMI) operator panels, added that the NPP Series offers more than just Siemens collaboration as it provides machine builders with a customizable platform for industrial applications.

“The NPP Series is more than an industrial-grade HMI. It’s a reliable edge computing platform designed to empower smart packaging lines,” said Shao.

Collaborating with Siemens for Industry 4.0 solutions

In 2023, Novakon began collaborating with Siemens in response to the growing demand for Industry 4.0 solutions. That same year, the company produced the NPP-156P01 panel PC, which was validated for compatibility and security and became the first third-party panel PC listed on the Siemens Industrial Edge platform.

“The Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem contains diversified software applications, which require scalable hardware products and reliable partners that could seamlessly support Industrial Edge applications integration,” said Shao.

Featuring an Intel Celeron processor, its design includes IP66-rated front panels, aluminum framing, and a fan-less enclosure designed for splash and dust resistance.

With a touchscreen that’s available in two sizes (15.6” and 21.5”), it works with various computing platforms, and its control panel features standardized cut-out dimensions for easy maintenance and repair.

Using the NPP’s data to power packaging lines

Information captured from the NPP Series can provide OEMs with insights into predictive maintenance and packaging line performance and throughput.

“For example, Edge apps can continuously analyze motor vibration or sealing temperature variations, helping detect wear or process deviations before they cause downtime,” explained Shao.

The Siemens platform provides management software so machine builders can control, monitor, and deploy applications centrally and remotely for machines equipped with the NPP Series.

“By enabling predictive maintenance and intelligent workload scheduling through Industrial Edge apps, it helps packaging plants reduce energy waste and extend equipment lifespan,” said Shao.

In terms of integration, Novakon offers hardware services and in-house HMI software called iFace Designer, which can be used to develop user interfaces for machine control and monitoring.

“We offer flexible mechanical adjustments for projects such as front bezel resizing, special mounting designs, and custom I/O layouts to meet the unique requirements of packaging equipment,” said Shao.

Taiwan Excellence and North American growth opportunities

For the NPP-156P01, Novakon won an award from Taiwan Excellence, a government-funded award that annually recognizes products from the region, including 155 winners in 2025.

The award’s judging includes R&D, design, quality, and marketing. Winners can showcase products on a global scale by attending trade shows across the world, like Automate in Detroit, to share the country’s industrial achievements.

With that in mind, Novakon is looking to expand beyond its headquarters in Taiwan, including its presence in North America, with all four NPP Series models that work on the Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem, including the award winner.

“As an official hardware and software partner in the Siemens Industrial Edge ecosystem, our NPP-15602 has attracted interest from North American OEMs looking for certified, edge-ready hardware solutions,” said Shao.
