Packaging lines require seamless operation and that entails more than just high-quality equipment. It also demands proactive maintenance of critical components — including drives.
Regular upkeep and monitoring not only prevent unexpected downtime, but also extends the lifespan of devices and optimizes efficiency. To maintain efficiency and longevity of its drives, Nord Drivesystems offers a full range of after-sales services and support.
Services include commissioning, maintenance, spare parts management, as well as self-service options with frequently asked questions to address basic inquiries with 24/7 online access.
According to the company, Nord’s approach is customized to each individual system requirement and includes optimization and adjustment of its products, laser alignment, vibration measurement, thermography, endoscopy, and commissioning reports.
A focus on service and support
The company’s basic commissioning package for electronic drive components consists of verifying electrical installation and parameters on variable frequency drives (VFDs), performing test runs for drives, and backing up electronical data via Nordcon software. An advanced commissioning package is also available that includes all the basic services plus network analysis of the voltage supply of components.
The Nord Smart Check provides customers with insight and regular maintenance of drive systems to ensure a long service life. This modular service allows customers to choose the service level that works best for their needs with basic, advanced, and premium tiers available, the company said.
When Nord performs maintenance on a drive, all recommended parts are replaced, any damage found is noted, and an on-site analysis is included. Preventative replacement of wearing parts reduces the risk of unscheduled downtime and reduces unnecessary wear on other parts for longer product life. Once the inspection is completed, customers will receive a collection of drive data along with status information with recommendations for action if irregularities are found.
When repairs are needed, Nord offers in-house repair at their facilities in Waunakee, Wisconsin and McKinney, Texas. The company also has a network of authorized service centers across the globe for local access.
Once a unit is received, service technicians will diagnose the cause for faults, clean and check all components, and replace damaged wearing parts, seals, bearings, and oil. After the drive is reassembled, a final assessment is performed to ensure it is working properly before it ships back to the customer.
Nord also offers spare parts for motors, gear motors, and VFD components. Replacement parts can also be ordered online via the Spare Parts Shop.
