Neugart displayed a portion of its extensive gearbox portfolio at the inaugural Pack Expo Southeast in Atlanta, featuring solutions that meet the current demands of both packaging and manufacturing.
Known for its customized offerings, the company was founded in 1928 in Kippenheim, Germany, and is now represented worldwide by its own subsidiaries and network of distributors.
Two of the products on display included a right-angle gearbox that can be deployed on busy packaging lines, along with one designed specifically to work with delta robots, ideal for pick-and-place operations.
“We’re showcasing our planetary gearboxes and our newest additions to our portfolio,” said Fabian Schmid, sales manager for Neugart, during an interview with Packaging OEM.
Gearboxes built for demanding applications
First, Neugart showcased its WPLN, a right-angle gearbox built for precision. Available in four sizes, the company highlighted the WPLN070 in Atlanta, which weighs just over three kilograms.
Engineered with hypoid gearing, it provides synchronization to reduce vibrations while providing a smooth and quiet operation. Featuring a two-stage spur gear and preloaded taper roller bearings, it’s available in jet-black paint with silver and white colors coming soon.
Operating in two stages, it’s a versatile option for packaging needs. The first stage is designed for lower torque functions, while the second stage provides higher torque for more demanding tasks on a packaging line:
· Stage one: normal torque of 22-45, max output of 35-72, emergency stop of 75-100
· Stage two: normal torque of 27-77, max output of 43-123, emergency stop of 80-150
It offers a standard backlash of less than five arcminutes or less than four arcminutes in the reduced-backlash version. It has an average thermal input speed range of 1450 to 2700 revolutions per minute (RPM).
It’s permanently lubricated and offers a flexible design that can be mounted in a variety of ways.

Robotic capabilities
Neugart also featured its NDF064, a coaxial, application-specific gearbox that features a helical gear and is designed to work with rapid changes in parallel-arm robots.
Featuring a radical shaft sealing ring, it’s optimized to assist with durability while still offering a low-inertia clamping system for fast directional changes.
“Our NDF gearbox with a nickel-plated output flange helps against corrosion,” said Schmid. “We hope that this gearbox will serve well in the Delta robot industry.”
This unit comes preloaded with angular contact bearings and a torque interface that improves accuracy, offering a 5.5:1 gear ratio for high torque transmissions. Built with four planet gears, it offers an improved interface while providing heavy output.
A wide range of output shafts is available on request, and the gearbox can be made of steel or stainless steel, with or without a dowel hole.
Additionally, it can be made with food-grade oil lubrication, so OEMs can deploy it in food and beverage packaging.

Customer-first approach
A family-owned company, Neugart, recently changed its sales model to better assist customers in selecting the proper gearbox for their project.
“All of our employees are direct salespeople,” Luke Rein, regional sales manager for Neugart, told Packaging OEM. “[We’re] here to provide better support for our customers, as well as a direct line to the factory.”
