Encoder Products Company adds programmable incremental encoder

Encoder Products Company (EPC) recently added a high-resolution programmable incremental encoder designed for motion feedback applications, including packaging machinery.

The 36RT/H Accu-CoderPro offers factory- or field-programmable resolution ranging from 1 to 100,000 counts per revolution (CPR). It’s available in hollow-bore and thru-bore configurations with bore sizes up to 10 mm.

When paired with EPC’s PR2 Programmer and free programming software, users can change the encoder’s resolution in the field and select from more than 40 waveform output options. They can also enable commutation and teach the index location.

“Applications are demanding greater precision, but engineers also need flexibility,” said Kerry Reuer, product lifecycle manager at EPC, in a statement. “The 36RT/H gives engineers both. With resolution up to 100,000 CPR and field programmability, users can configure the encoder for the application instead of maintaining multiple encoder configurations.”

One encoder for multiple configurations

The programmable design gives OEMs and integrators the option to configure or reconfigure the encoder during machine setup, commissioning, or application changes.

It can also reduce the number of encoder configurations that manufacturers or distributors need to keep in inventory. Instead of stocking separate encoders with different resolutions or outputs, the 36RT/H can be programmed for a specific application.

The encoder has a 36 mm housing for integration into compact motion control systems.

EPC says it designed the 36RT/H for applications including packaging, printing, converting, material handling, conveying, cut-to-length equipment, web tensioning, textiles, timber products, and metal forming and fabrication.

The addition expands EPC’s Accu-CoderPro line of programmable encoders.
