Conveying a smooth experience on the packaging line

To accommodate products of various sizes, smooth operation on the packaging line’s conveyor system is essential. Bosch Rexroth’s VarioFlow belt conveyor offers gentle transport, making it ideal for delicate items from various industries such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, consumer packaged goods (CPG), automotive, and electrical.

Bosch Rexroth, which supplies drive and control technologies, says the VarioFlow belt conveyor is an expansion of its VarioFlow product line. This makes the belt conveyor compatible with the system’s portfolio, thus reducing engineering times and allowing user customization.

The belt conveyor is a standalone system that consists of the base unit for the drive, the return unit, the section wall, and the vertical and horizontal curves. According to the company, it can handle unstable or bulk items, and film-packed products, like small, sealed edge bags. Additionally, it can accommodate larger products, such as toilet paper and paper towels, as its side rails can be adjusted to different formats.

Manufacturers can utilize the equipment’s quick configuration for fast setup. Additional features of the VarioFlow belt conveyor include:

  • Gentle handling: Features a fine-meshed, leveled surface, along with deep-drawn plastic trays for delicate contact surfaces, assisting in safe delivery of delicate items along the packaging line.
  • Stable transport: For inherently stable products, the VarioFlow can protrude sideways in horizontal sections.
  • Minimizes wear and tear: Its sliding rails mount from the side without rivets, the company says this eliminates the need for surface machining and results in a smoother operation.
  • Conveyor system: Supports layouts with curves on both sides, offering a space-saving option. It can also operate at speeds up to 40 meters per minute, including lengths up to 30 meters.
  • Small deflection radius: This feature reduces the conveyor trench, the company says, adding that additional components for bridging are not usually required.
  • Layout designer: Allows users to create complex constructions and system layouts.
  • Software support: Comes equipped with the company’s free MTPro software for planning systems, which allows users to plan, calculate, and document assembly systems. An integrated function also eliminates the need for a third party to check the design.
  • Safety: Products that are film-wrapped, like side-sealed packs, do not get caught in the conveying medium, the company says this reduces safety risks.
  • Accessories: The VarioFlow Plus and VarioFlow belt conveyor use the same system components, including guides, leg sets, and drive kits.
