Cartoning machine market projected to reach $13.58 billion by 2034

Integral to modern-day packaging operations, carton machines offer both efficiency and scalability to meet high-volume product demands. Because of this, the market for cartoning machines is poised for significant expansion and will grow from $8.72 billion in 2025 to $13.58 billion by 2034, according to a new report from Towards Packaging. The 5.05% increase over the next decade will be bolstered by manufacturers in Europe.

There are several factors contributing to this anticipated growth. Those include the push for more sustainable products, the demand for high-speed machines while implementing automation and smart technologies, and the need for industry-specific solutions.

What is a cartoning machine?

A cartoning machine is an automated device used in packaging to form, fill, and seal cartons or boxes. These machines are commonly employed in the food industry, as well as beverage, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and e-commerce industries. These machines ensure consistent carton forming, filling, and sealing, streamlining the packaging process and increasing operational efficiency. It also enhances precision and improves the accuracy of packaging.

All eyes on sustainability

As both businesses and consumers have become more aware of the environmental impact of packaging waste, sustainability has taken center stage. With 70% of US consumers saying they’re willing to pay more for a sustainable package, the demand for eco-friendly packaging has surged. Large brands like Coca-Cola have updated their environmental and packaging goals and pledged to use 35% to 40% of recycled material in primary packaging.

With this green push, businesses are looking for cartoning machines that support recyclable materials and offer energy-efficient operations to create sustainable products.

Keeping up with demand: Adding automation and smart technologies

The need for high-speed cartoning machines is growing to meet rising production demands, with automation and smart technology playing a key role in providing support.

By adding automated machines, it becomes easier for the manufacturer to generate cartons of various shapes and sizes. Plus, automation keeps labor costs down and can improve speed and accuracy. For example, adding smart technologies like artificial intelligence and IoT to machines enables real-time tracking of the packaging process, therefore reducing flaws and further enhancing efficiency.

Industry-specific needs

According to the Towards Packaging report, cartoning machines are becoming more advanced and user-friendly as packaging solutions continue to evolve. With increased calls for customized packaging, manufacturers are developing adaptable cartoning machines to meet the needs of several diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and food and beverage

Regionally, Europe is expected to see notable growth in the cartoning machines market. There’s an increase in trade in countries including Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Packaged seafoods and other products are behind this push. This import-export business relies on carton machines for proper packaging to avoid leakage of products.

The report also listed 15 key players in cartoning machines, including Orpac Systems Private Limited, Warade PackTech Private Limited, Creative Packaging System, and more. To see the full report, click here
