As more consumers call for sustainable products, manufacturers are feeling the pressure to produce high-quality flexible packaging while maximizing productivity.
To push the industry forward, BW Converting shared its latest equipment innovations in digital press technology and quality assurance during the European FlexPack Summit in Barcelona, Spain.
The company, headquartered in Green Bay, Wis., is spotlighting its PCMC Ion digital hybrid press, Hudson-Sharp Ares stand-up pouch line, and the Baldwin Defender 100% inspection series.

Improving printing efficiency
For those who need a wider, faster printer, the PCMC Ion hybrid printing press can produce larger digital runs at a cost-competitive price.
The machine is designed to handle up to 127 meters per minute with web widths of 914, 1066, and 1320 millimeters for paper, film, and board applications.
It’s a fully modular system with digital color printing capabilities and flexo print stations. It can be configured to meet a variety of customer needs.

Marking stand-up pouches
The company’s solutions are catering to the increasingly popular stand-up pouch market. BW Converting’s Hudson-Sharp Ares machine comes in three formats: the 400 Lite, Elite, and Rapid. Each is designed to meet various requirements needed by the manufacturer.
This series can accommodate organizations that are just entering the market, all the way up to large manufacturers looking to scale up production volume. Here are the options:
· Ares 400 Lite: Designed for entry-level manufacturers, this machine allows quick changeovers and provides seamless operation. Its key features include advanced zipper-sealing, ultrasonic zipper crush, and a flying knife cut-off system.
· Ares Elite: Utilized for more complex needs, this machine features independent gusset K-sealers, automatic positioning, and web registration for precision. It can be customized with additional options such as bottom-fill pouches or child-resistant closures.
· Ares Rapid: Built for high volumes, it can achieve more than 200 cycles per minute. It features web tension control and servo cross sealers. It maximizes speed and efficiency while keeping production costs low.
Seamless quality assurance
The Baldwin Defender 100% system delivers detect-free print quality to brand owners and print customers. It includes the web-based Defender View, which can work solo or with additional software to monitor the entire web and assist in detection. It alerts operators to errors in real-time so they can take corrective action to minimize waste.
Additionally, its post-press process allows users to view defect positions, classifications, and images. The system can use materials like film, paper, board, and foil.
